I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of six and for the last 16 years I have been taking multiple daily injections along with handling the daily challenges this disease can bring. In my 16 years of diabetes, I have taken over 20,000 insulin injections, countless finger pokes, bi-annually blood tests and exams.
Once diagnosed my family, like many, struggled for many years to cope with the financial pressure that comes with ensuring the tools needed to survive and be healthy, were available to me. Emotionally, Diabetes can be devastating to both the families and diabetics themselves as they ride the roller coaster of high points and low points of the disease.
I am participating again this year in the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes because I want to do my part to help other diabetics, like myself, live a healthier and happier life.
Over 240,000 Canadians are Type 1 diabetics, they struggle emotionally and financially whether they are new to the game or veterans. With your donation, together we can help JDRF ensure that diabetics in Canada and around the world are given a chance to live a more carefree life!
My goal this year is to raise at least $460.00 (double what I raised in 2009) - if I can raise more, I will be ecstatic!.
